Dr Jennifer O’Mahoney is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the South East Technological University (SETU) in Waterford, and a Chartered Member of the Psychological Society of Ireland. She is also Co-Director of the Crime and Justice Research Group at SETU and a Senior Researcher at INSYTE (the Centre for Information Systems and Techno-culture) at SETU, where she actively contributes to a participant-focused research programme with the aim to foster social change.

She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Applied Psychology from University College Cork, followed by an MSc in Psychology at the University of Edinburgh, then a PhD in Psychology from University of East London.

Her background in narrative psychology lends itself to the significance of personal stories during traumatic times, which aids her current research on the narration of victimology and trauma, where she studies the interplay between memory, social change, and the digital humanities. She is also the Principal Investigator of the Waterford Memorial Project, which delves into historical institutional abuse in Ireland.

Dr O’Mahoney also has an interest in exploring how technology presents as a dual force, where it can be a catalyst for social change but also a contributor to the marginalisation of certain societal groups. She is an active proponent of international collaboration and is dedicated to making academic research more accessible and understandable.
